On Infinite Transition Graphs Having a Decidable Monadic Theory
نویسنده
چکیده
We deene a family of graphs whose monadic theory is (in linear space) reducible to the monadic theory S2S of the complete ordered binary tree. This family contains strictly the context-free graphs investigated by Muller and Schupp, and also the equational graphs deened by Courcelle. Using words as representations of vertices, we give a complete set of representatives by preex rewriting of rational languages. This subset of possible representatives is a boolean algebra preserved by transitive closure of arcs and by rational restriction on vertices.

In 1969, Rabin [148] showed that the monadic second-order theory (MSO-theory) of infinite binary trees is decidable (see Chapter 12 of this volume or [183]). Ever since, it has been an interesting goal to extend this result to other classes of objects. Muller and Schupp [135] showed that the class of pushdown graphs has a decidable MSO-theory. This class is obtained by considering the configura...
متن کاملOn Infinite Terms Having a Decidable Monadic Theory
We study a transformation on terms consisting of applying an inverse deterministic rational mapping followed by an unfolding. Iterating these transformations from the regular terms gives a hierarchy of families of terms having a decidable monadic theory. In particular, the family at level 2 contains the morphic innnite words investigated by Carton and Thomas. We show that this hierarchy coincid...
متن کاملOn countable chains having decidable monadic theory
Rationals and countable ordinals are important examples of structures with decidable monadic second-order theories. A chain is an expansion of a linear order by monadic predicates. We show that if the monadic second-order theory of a countable chain C is decidable then C has a non-trivial expansion with decidable monadic second-order theory.
متن کاملInfinite and Bi-infinite Words with Decidable Monadic Theories
We study word structures of the form (D,<,P ) where D is either N or Z, < is the natural linear ordering on D and P ⊆ D is a predicate on D. In particular we show: (a) The set of recursive ω-words with decidable monadic second order theories is Σ3complete. (b) Known characterisations of the ω-words with decidable monadic second order theories are transfered to the corresponding question for bi-...
متن کاملVertex-minors, monadic second-order logic, and a conjecture by Seese
We prove that one can express the vertex-minor relation on finite undirected graphs by formulas of monadic second-order logic (with no edge set quantification) extended with a predicate expressing that a set has even cardinality. We obtain a slight weakening of a conjecture by Seese stating that sets of graphs having a decidable satisfiability problem for monadic second-order logic have bounded...
